DRY EYE MANAGEMENT

Ever wonder why your eyesight becomes blurry after reading for a while? Or why your eyes water even when not watching a sad movie or cutting onions? Read below to find out more about dry eye causes and solutions.

In simplest terms Dry Eye Disease occurs for one of two reasons:

  1. Your eyes do not make enough tears

  2. Your eyes do not make good quality tears.

This results in inflammation and Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) we commonly call Dry Eye.
There are several common causes associated with OSD including:

  • Blepharitis

  • Meibomian Gland disease

  • Hormonal changes

  • Screen time

  • Refractive Surgery

  • Systemic Disease/Medication

  • Diet

At Owl Optometry we use specialized testing to find the cause of your symptoms and will find the best options to manage your dry eye

  • Inflammadry

InflammaDry is the first and only, rapid result, in-office test that detects elevated levels of MMP-9, an inflammatory marker that is consistently elevated in the tears of patients with dry eye disease. All other dry eye tests measure tear production and stability.

Using a simple 4-step process, InflammaDry recognizes elevated levels of MMP-9, to identify patients that may otherwise be missed with other dry eye testing methods.

  • Tear Lab

The TearLab Osmolarity System* is intended to measure the osmolarity of human tears to aid in the diagnosis of dry eye disease in conjunction with other methods of clinical evaluation.

  • This technology provides the doctors with a comprehensive report covering 7 dry eye diagnoses utilizing non-invasive examinations for quantitative data.

We offer in office treatments and adjunctive in office therapies
