VISION THERAPY

Vision therapy is a doctor supervised program designed to improve the function of the visual system. Eyesight, or seeing 20/20 is only a small part of our visual skills.

Some of the other key skills necessary for well functioning visual system include:

  • Accommodation - eye focusing

  • Binocular vision - eye teaming

  • Oculomotor function - eye tracking

  • Visual Perception - how we make sense of visually presented information

  • Visual Processing - how quickly and efficiently we interpret visual information

Reading and Learning Difficulties

Vision and learning are deeply connected. In fact, there are more areas of the brain involved in vision than all of the other senses combined. Therefore it is the ability of the eyes and brain to work together that have a significant impact on learning for both children and adults.

Vision therapy develops and enhances fundamental visual skills which leads to increased visual comfort and visual processing. When the eyes and the brain work together as a team, visual function improves along with improved performance in the classroom, in sports and everyday activities.

Vision therapy can be used to treat several different eye/vision conditions such as:

  • Amblyopia - lazy eye

  • Strabismus - misaligned eyes

  • Binocular (eye movement) disorders

  • Accommodative (focusing) disorders

  • Acquired brain injury vision disorders

  • Visual-perception disorders
